Opodo has achieved full automation of its scheduled flight invoicing in cooperation with the mid office supplier Midoco. Previously, Opodo issued invoices with an exact statement of taxes on demand. Each such invoice had to be processed manually. “With Midoco, ten to fifteen times the invoicing volume without demand can be processed automatically.”, explains Midoco’s Managing Director Steffen Faradi. The travel details are transmitted directly to Midoco from Opodo’s headquarters in London in the form of XML files, where they are then drafted as tour orders. Midoco generates an invoice from each tour order including a full tax statement for all types of service. To this end all possible eventualities have been integrated into a complex set of rules which can be applied to every type of incoming message fully automatically. “The main challenge involved in this case was represented by the structure of an international organisation such as Opodo, which offers services in both the UK and in Germany.”, Faradi explains. The system must be capable of processing flight services and package components such as hotels and rental cars and at the same time handling differing VAT rates, service fees or credit card payments. The resulting PDF document is sent to the customer in the form of an eMail attachment automatically. An appropriate text for the eMail is composed as well. The Opodo call centre in Berlin only performs spot checks; apart from this the invoices - considerably more than 1000 per day - are processed without any manual intervention at all. “With Midoco, we have achieved the almost complete automation of the invoicing system and the customer receives the confirmation which he requires in a very short space of time. In this way we can save time and still provide a better service to our customers.”, observes Opodo’s Director in Germany, Tom Reiter, with satisfaction. Midoco, one of three companies held by the Pisano Holding in Hamburg, now processes invoice turnover to a value of around von 800 million Euros, mainly in the online sector.
